When I last caught up with Joe he had the following to share:
"When I came back from Oak Island to Rochterter's Hess Express on Chili Avenue, I got a standing ovation from the clerks and manager. I kid you not. That's because almost every day I eat an egg cheese bluffin there and make small talk with the employees and the manager. For two months I wasn't helping to keep their bluffin sales up. They have tables that you can sit at and solve the problems of the world. If I ever get desperate for photos, I am going to photograph Hess as the last place Silly was seen."

I'm sure you'll enjoy following Joseph "Silly" Sottile and learning more about him and his adventures. Hey, you never know...his next stop may be in your area.
GREETINGS:
ReplyDeleteI last saw Silly on Halloween Night 10/31/08 at my home where we had a haunted tent to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House within the hospital at Strong Memorial Hospital. Silly was selling his poems and donating 100% to the Ronalds house. He ate very few candies and even read his poems to trick or treat gang. He sat outside with the spooky Halloween lights and fog.
He sounds like a character!

I can't believe I last saw Joe a year ago at the SCBWI conference in Poughkeepsie!
ReplyDeleteJoe's such a great guy, his books are so much fun and he's an excellent ambassador of children's poetry!
Keep up the great work, Joe! :)

Wonderful! I remember a potter who kept our kids entranced as he talked.
ReplyDeleteRocco, I remember that evening well. The wind was really blowing and the spirit of giving was all around your house. I enjoyed being with your family and meeting some of your neighbors. And you were a good sport: you even wore my extra propeller hat. And you collected money on both nights for Ronald McDonald House. You're a good man, Rocco.

ReplyDeleteLori, you and Donna are a great team in terms of following on the web. Both of you have a lot to offer to book lovers and story lovers across America. Keep inspiring all of us!
ReplyDeleteI last saw Silly Sottile at Southern Meadows Golf Course claiming to be Club Champion in his own category: "Over 60, Left Handed, Poet and Wearing a Whirly-bird Beanie". Now that's creative! You probably didn't need the beanie part.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteHello All:
