Wow! It's February 4th already! I've been participating in #IWSG for several months now and the support has been amazing. Thank you!
The awesome co-hosts for the February 4 posting of the IWSG will be Gwen Gardner, Dolorah, Sarah Foster, and M. Pax!
I'm going off topic from writing this time around and I'm focusing on fundraising efforts for childhood cancer. Please read the story below of Mickey Reeves from my community who is now battling his way through cancer for the second time.
Any child can have cancer. Nothing
you do or say, not even love, can stop it. It doesn’t discriminate based on
race, financial status, or the age of a child.
It was 2008, when Mickey was 10,
he began exhibiting concerning symptoms and in January of 2009, he was
diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a highly malignant brain tumor. He would endure
radiation and chemotherapy and more surgery to stop a massive GI bleed. He would lose the entire use of his left side
and learn how to walk again. He would
receive blood and platelet transfusions as a side effect of the chemotherapy.
He would endure intensive rehabilitation.
Eventually over time, he fell
back into the normal swing of things. After home tutoring, he returned back to
school in the 8th grade and in true Mickey fashion continuously made
honor roll. His strength and
determination has been incredible.
Mickey is now a junior at Tappan Zee High School. Last year he and his
family learned there was a new growth and they have been managing his
healthcare and again we stand united to support him in his courageous battle
against brain cancer.
Can you help us out? If you are a business please make a
generous donation of food, gift certificates or services. If you are a family or individual please make
a generous donation of money or buy some raffles for some spectacular prizes.
On Sunday March 8, 2015, 2pm, we, the friends of Mickey Reeves, will
hold a fundraiser at the Knights of
Columbus in Blauvelt, New York. The
event will feature an afternoon of live music, with a couple of talented bands,
Dead
Mile Dance and Sum of The Others. There will be many opportunities to
win amazing raffles and prizes. Food, beer, wine and sodas will be served.
We have reunited again to
continue our journey and we need your support. No man, woman, or family
is an island, we live in a community where people pitch in to help when things
get rough.

DeleteWe had the opportunity this last weekend to help with a collection and donation of time/supplies to our local homeless shelter. What an amazing experience! Is there anything better than giving of yourself of time to those in need? Situations where children suffer with severe health complications, it breaks my heart, but I'm so grateful for everyone who steps up to ease their suffering.
ReplyDeleteYes, paying it forward is a huge reward. It's so heartwarming when people step up! Best, Donna

ReplyDeleteI lost another friend from cancer just before Christmas. It is a horrible disease.
Hi J.H., thank you for your warm support, much appreciated. My sincere sympathies of your friend. No words can describe it. God Bless! Best, Donna
DeleteWow, what a great thing that you've put this up on your blog. Cancer is so scary. I have had many friends, children and adults alike, who have suffered from this disease and so appreciate how you are helping them out.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to message you or email you, but don't know where to find your contact information. Alex, Ninja Captain, gave those of us who are A to Z Challenge co-hosts this year a list of folks who had said they'd like to volunteer to be helpers, minions, to be exact, and I was wondering, if no one else has already snapped you up, would you like to sign on with my team? We have six, including me right now, but need a few more to make it easier on all of us. We'd love to have you on our team if you'd like to join us. Just let me know, thanks, Lisa celticadlx@gmail.com
Hi Lisa, my sincere sympathies of your loved ones suffering or suffered from cancer. Your warm wishes are appreciated.
DeleteThank you for asking me to join your A-Z team, but I've already joined C. Lee McKenzie.
Best,
Donna
Oh, and I forgot, I have a good friend, Jane Ellen Freeman, who has also published her children's books with Guardian Angel Publishing! That's so cool!
ReplyDeleteSmall world! Yes, I've "seen" Jane on the GAP boards. Best,
DeleteDonna
Cancer is such a terrible disease, and it is especially sad when children are affected by it. It's wonderful that you all are doing this to support and help your young friend. Praying for Mickey and that your fundraiser will be fruitful!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, thank you for your heartwarming support, it is truly appreciated! Best, Donna
DeleteNothing more tragic than a child with a life-threatening illness. You're wonderful to lend your support for Mickey. All my positive thoughts go out to him.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thanks for dropping by. Unfortunately, Mickey past away. We are continuing with the fundraiser on March 8th. Thanks for your positive thoughts. Best, Donna
DeleteVery sad to hear that. It's hard to lose anyone, but to lose a young person brings such heartache.
