X is Xenophile - #AtoZChallenge

Today's word is Xenophile...

Definition:

noun
a person who is attracted to foreign peoples, cultures, or customs.

When planning your outings whether it be around dinner or travel, do you step out of your comfort zone and make your choices so that you have the opportunity to learn about foreign people and their cultures? I find it truly fascinating when you immerse yourself in someone else's world, by trying new cuisine or traveling to distant places.

The furthest I've been is to the Dominican Republic and I enjoyed it immensely to learn about their way of life. It's an eye opener that while people have their own customs and ways of doing things, the underlining belief I find is always to do best by one's family.

I look forward to hearing all about your attraction to Xenophile.

  1. I am pure Xenophile when I am reading. I love to time travel, space travel and culture travel and be part of their lives and see how they see, feel and love.

And I'm curious in real life too. :)

  2. Narrow minds come from no exposure to a world beyond one's back yard. I'm fortunate I've lived in several foreign countries and been exposed to a wife variety of people.

  4. I did a year abroad in Germany, which included 2 weeklong trips, one to Prague and one to Berlin. This was a time when Prague and East Berlin were both under communist rule. I went with one of our chaperones to a big department store in East Berlin--- she needed to buy vacuum cleaner bags for an East German made vacuum cleaner. Amazing to see such a large store with such a tiny selection of consumer goods--- except in the book department which was absolutely filled with Communist books such as the complete works of Karl Marx and V. I. Lenin.
I can't travel now, but I love listening to Internet radio from other countries. I listen to a lot of radio from Croatia and Serbia and am learning some of the language (because I have some Serbian-American friends.)

  6. Traveling to other places sounds fun and exotic. The thing that holds me back is not having the funds to do so.

  7. Sadly the only other country I've been to is Canada. But I would love to go to Mexico, the Greek Islands, England, Scotland, Ireland, and especially Prague.

  10. It's a popular subject today. Via the web we can all experience other cultures. I wish more folks were open to them. We need to end the fear and become a true world community!

  11. I love learning about other cultures and traveling to other countries. The farthest I've been is Belize. By way of cruises, I've been to many places in the Caribbean. I want to see Europe soon.
